After winning four matches on the trot, Rajasthan Royals tasted their first defeat of IPL 2024 against Gujarat Titans in Match 24 of the ongoing edition. Then they came back strongly, defeating Gujarat Titans by three wickets before coming to face Kolkata Knight Riders in their own backyard, Eden Gardens.

This will be the battle of the table toppers, with RR staying at the top of the points table, and KKR just behind them, having played a game less than their next opponent. More importantly, the Shreyas Iyer-led side will have two matches in three days, with the recent victory coming against Lucknow Super Giants at the same venue.

RR missed quite a few regulars in their previous tie against Punjab Kings, with Jos Buttler, Ravichandran Ashwin, and South African speedster Nandre Burger all being sidelined due to injuries and niggles. As the big match is coming up, will they return in action, or need some more time for recovery?

It’s a big question, to be fair. If Buttler and Ashwin -- two of the very best in RR squad -- recover before the KKR match, they will return to the field for sure. However, Burger’s comeback at Eden Gardens is in doubt, considering Keshav Maharaj, his like-for-like overseas option, bowled magnificently in RR’s last game, and he could carry the momentum under lights in Kolkata as well.

To make way for the star duo, Tanush Kotian and Rovman Powell have to make ways, while the rest are expected to keep their places in the lineup.
