The ongoing Test series between India and England has been quite a ride for Ravichandran Ashwin, who has managed both his professional and personal life with utmost excellence. 

Ashwin, playing his 99th Test for India, created history this morning during the Ranchi Test, becoming the first Indian player to claim 100 wickets and score 1,000 runs against any opponent. 


The off-spinner with the wicket of Jonny Bairstow on Day 1 of the morning session, picked up his 100th Test scalp against England, and thus created a rare record, taking 23 red-ball matches to achieve this feat.

Overall, Ashwin became the seventh player in Test history to attain this record, and also the only Indian bowler to pick 100 wickets against England. England's Ian Botham is the only player record the double in lesses Tests than Ashwin (23), taking just 22 matches against Australia. 

The 37-year-old is the second bowler to cross 100 wickets in India-England Tests, which pacer Jimmy Anderson leads with 145. Earlier, in the series Ashwin completed his 500th Test wicket as well during the Rajkot Test, becoming the second only Indian after former legend Anil Kumble to breach this mark. 

Overall, in 99* Test between 2011 and 2024, Ashwin has taken 502 wickets with 34 five-wicket hauls and eight 10-fers, making him one of the legend of the sport already. 

As of writing, England are 112 for 5 at lunch on Day 1, with Joe Root unbeaten on 16 in the middle having lost half the side.
