Predicted Playing XI of Chennai Super Kings for Match 17 of IPL 2023

MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will clash against Sanju Samson's Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai in match number 17 of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Super Kings have been on a roll with two consecutive victories in their previous two matches against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Mumbai Indians (MI), respectively as they lost the first one against Gujarat Titans (GT).

However, now, they would be returning to their home in Chepauk where they have won been fairly consistent with their performances and team selections. Therefore, we'll have a look at the side which is likely to take the field in this game.


Top Order: Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane

The duo of Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been the prime run-scorers for CSK this season. Conway was phenomenal in the one game whereas Ruturaj has been delivering consistently this season as he is running in for the race of Orange Cap.

Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane stole the show in the previous game as he struck a magnificent half-century taking Mumbai by storm that too at his home ground. CSK's top order is more or less settled but the only combination they would ponder over is if Moeen Ali comes in at 3 or lower down the order after Rahane's class act.

Middle Order: Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni

If Rahane plays at three, there's every chance that Moeen Ali will be slotted in at 4 or even a lower position depending on the situation. Whatever the position is Shivam Dube would again be asked to tonk the ball from the word go. Moreover, his impact can't be discarded meaning the Yellow army has offered him the proper role of going after the spinners.

The power of Ravindra Jadeja in the death overs can't be neglected along with the cameos that skipper MS Dhoni is known to play. The middle order has been in decent touch and if all goes well another big total could be on the cards.

Bowlers: Mitchell Santner, Dwaine Pretorius, Tushar Deshpande, Rajvardhan Hangargekar

The spin trio of Mitchell Santner, Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali is a genuine one on turning tracks where the ball is gripping especially in a place like Chepauk. The wily death bowling of Dwaine Pretorius is a boon for any side that would fancy their chances in the slog overs.

The medium pace of Tushar Deshpande has been trusted and is expected to be back for the upcoming matches as well. Talking about the replacement for Deepak Chahar, Rajvardhan Hangargekar will be asked to bowl the crucial overs.
