MLC 2024 Match 7, SF vs TEX- Tactical Play: The Unicorns Fly High Or The Super Kings Get Going?

San Francisco Unicorns and Texas Super Kings will be playing against each other in the seventh match of the MLC 2024 [X]San Francisco Unicorns and Texas Super Kings will be playing against each other in the seventh match of the MLC 2024 [X]

The San Francisco Unicorns (SF) are slated to take on the Texas Super Kings (TEX) in the seventh match of the MLC 2024. This match will be played at the Church Street Park Stadium in Morrsiville on July 11 at 12:30 AM IST.

The San Francisco Unicorns have made a brilliant start to their campaign and have flexed their batting muscles against the Los Angeles Knight Riders. They will be looking to continue their momentum in the second match of their campaign against the Super Kings.

The Texas Super Kings, on the other hand, have been a bit unlucky in the tournament. While they lost their first match against the Knight Riders by 12 runs, their second game was abandoned due to rain. In a match where they had 203 runs on the board, the Super Kings would have been disappointed with the rain interruption. The Faf du Plessis-led side will be looking to come back strong and get running in the race for the play-offs.

Before this exciting match, let us have a look at a few tactical points that might decide the fate of the game.

Allen, Fraser-McGurk, Short vs the Texas Bowlers

The power at the top of the San Francisco batting line-up is dangerous-looking. With Finn Allen, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short at the top, the Unicorns will be hoping to get off to flying starts in most of the games.

The opening bowlers of Texas will have their work cut out against this trio. The likes of Naveen-ul-Haq, Aaron Hardie, Marcus Stoinis and Zia-ul-Haq will have to find a way to either keep these three batters quiet or dismiss them as quickly as possible.

How Faf du Plessis plans against the powerful top order of the San Francisco Unicorns and how his bowlers execute it will go a long way in determining the fate of the match.

Void of Gerald Coetzee for Texas

Gerald Coetzee is one of the prized possesions of the Texas Super Kings. They depend a lot on the extra pace of the young Protean speedster to pick up wickets in almost all stages of the game. However, Coetzee will no longer take part in this tournament due to the injury he suffered in the first game against the Knight Riders.

The absence of Coetzee will create a void in the Texas bowling attack. They need to find someone to fill this place. A bowler who can pick up wickets in all stages of the game. It will be interesting to see if this brings the experienced Dwayne Bravo into the equation or if they hand over these responsibilities to someone like Calvin Savage or Cameron Stevenson.

Battle of the Undercooked middle-orders

While the top order of both teams looks in rhythm, the middle order might be a concern for both.

The likes of Aaron Hardie and Marcus Stoinis are not yet in the best of forms, and that did cost the Super Kings the game against the Knight Riders.

On the other hand, in the first match of the Unicorns, we saw that even after a blazing start, the middle-order lost momentum a bit.

The skipper of both teams will be looking to get past each other's top order and expose their middle orders. On a wicket that is expected to favour the batters, it will be interesting to see which middle-order responds to the demand of the game and turns things around for their team.
