MA Chidambaram Stadium Chennai Pitch Report: Is the surface batting or bowling friendly?

The pitch at the Chepauk is generally known to provide some help to the spinners, but in white-ball cricket it has played quite well in the recent past. The batters enjoyed conditions in the last season with the average first innings score touching almost 170, and expect similar batting conditions with pitch conducive for stroke-makers in the high-octane clash between CSK and MI.

Also, 74 of the total 99 wickets that fell in the last season at Chepauk were taken by pacers which shows that spinners did not play a big role, and the same can be expected on Sunday. However, one can expect spinners to do a holding job. The pitches at Chepauk generally get slow as the tournament progresses, so, this being the first match of the season at the ground, expect a good batting deck with true bounce.

In the nine matches of the last season at the venue, six were won by the team chasing which shows that pitches in Chepauk have behaved better in the second half with dew coming in. Thus, the captain winning the toss is likely to bowl first. From the fantasy point of view, the top order batters from both the teams, and the bowlers who will bowl at the death are likely to fetch maximum points.
