Will CSK hand an IPL debut to Ayush Mhatre? [Source: @ChennaiIPL/X]
Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, the two most successful teams in Indian Premier League history, find themselves in the bottom half of the points table in the ongoing 18th season. Facing each other for the second time this season, the El Classico of IPL will be played at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
With Indians not being able to defeat Super Kings in almost three years now, the home team wouldn’t want to allow the opposition to extend its winning streak to 5-0. The visitors, on the contrary, would be keen to building on a winning momentum after losing four matches in a row.
Irrespective of who triumphs, the following records could be achieved during the course of IPL 2025 Match 38:
Second-Highest Run-Scorer
Veteran MI opening batter Rohit Sharma needs 60 runs to become the second-highest run-scorer in IPL history. Having registered just one 60+ knock in his last 14 IPL innings, Sharma will surpass long-time Indian opening partner Shikhar Dhawan (6,769) if he achieves this feat.
Currently, the right-handed batter has amassed 6,710 runs at an average and strike rate of 29.30 and 131.28 respectively across 258 innings.
1,000 Runs vs CSK In The IPL
Having scored a century against CSK at this venue last year, Rohit requires another such effort to complete 1,000 IPL runs against them. As of now, he’s the third-highest run-scorer behind Virat Kohli (1,084) and Shikhar Dhawan (1,057) in this aspect. Sharma, meanwhile, has scored 896 runs at an average and strike rate of 28.90 and 128.55 across 35 IPL innings.
150 Sixes In The IPL
Mumbai vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav needs as many as eight sixes to complete 150 sixes in the IPL. Yadav, who has hit 142 sixes across 142 innings, if he’s able to do so despite the difficulty, the right-handed batter will become the 24th player with 150 sixes in the IPL.
200 Fours In The IPL
Indians captain Hardik Pandya would also be looking forward to a personal milestone. Unlike Yadav, all Pandya needs is to hit two boundaries to complete 200 fours in the IPL. Across 133 innings, the right-handed batter has hit 198 fours and 142 sixes.
50 Sixes In the IPL
Chennai all-rounder Vijay Shankar needs to hit a couple of sixes to bring up 50 sixes in the tournament. Yet to get going in real terms this season, the 34-year-old player has hit 88 fours and 48 sixes thus far.
100 Fours In The IPL
CSK all-rounder Shivam Dube, having mostly played as an Impact Player this season, needs a lone four to complete 100 IPL fours. Known for his sixes against spinners, in particular, the left-handed batter has hit 99 fours and 110 sixes in the competition till now.
Most Sixes vs MI In The IPL
Over the years, Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has hit 37 sixes against MI. Currently third on the list of sixes against Mumbai, Dhoni needs to hit two such shots to outperform Delhi Capitals wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul in this aspect. Speaking of the top spot, Universe Boss Chris Gayle acquires it on the back of hitting 44 sixes.
