On Tuesday, May 27, RCB beat LSG to finish second on the points table behind Punjab Kings. With the win, The Challengers strengthened their chances of a maiden IPL trophy as they will play qualifier one on May 29 at the Mullanpur Stadium. 

The fans are hoping for the first title in 18 years, while the same case is for Punjab Kings, who are in search of their first trophy. Meanwhile, this article will look at the teams who have gone onto win the IPL trophy after finishing 2nd on the table.

Teams Who Won IPL After Finishing 2nd

For the unversed, it is worth noting that teams who have finished second on the table have won more trophies than the teams topping the table. It happened first in 2011 when CSK finished 2nd on the table  and went on to win the title, which was their second straight title in the cash-studded league. 

Further, teams from 2011-2015 went onto win the title finishing 2nd on the table. Since then, it has been seven times that a team which has finished second has gone onto win the trophy. The latest trophy was won by CSK in 2023 when they finished second. Notably, Chennai have won four of their titles finishing 2nd on the table. While CSK have won four times, Kolkata Knight Riders have won two out of their three trophies, while Mumbai Indians also have two titles to their name.
