The first day of the much-awaited IPL 2025 mega auction was conducted smoothly in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24, Sunday. Ten IPL franchises engaged in multiple bidding wars to get their desired players and settle their core ahead of the tournament's next season.

However, five-time champions Mumbai Indians were less active than their counterparts on the first day of the mega auction event. The Hardik Pandya-led side bagged Trent Boult for INR 12.5 Crores while securing the services of Naman Dhir (RTM), Robin Minz and Karn Sharma.

So, considering Mumbai Indians have 16 slots to fill and the second-highest purse amount, they are expected to go after several big names to strengthen their squad. As the auction nears, here are three renowned players MI will target on day 2 of the event.

Ryan Rickelton (Base Price- 1 Cr)

Why will MI target Ryan Rickelton?

  • After releasing Ishan Kishan, MI are searching for a quality top-order keeper-batter. Although they trusted Robin Minz's talent, the youngster will more likely be a reserve in their squad.
  • Therefore, Ryan Rickelton seems to be the best option for Mumbai Indians to replace Ishan in their team. The swashbuckling southpaw has amassed 755 T20 runs at a terrific average of 53.9 and a blistering strike rate of 165.2 in 16 innings this year. So, given that he plays for Mumbai's sister franchise MI Cape Town in the SA20, the five-time champions will likely buy him in the mega auction.

Sherfane Rutherford (Base Price- 1.5 Cr)

Why will MI target Sherfane Rutherford?

  • West Indies' explosive middle-order batter Sherfane Rutherford is known as one of the cleanest strikers of the ball. The southpaw has showcased remarkable form of late, scoring 290 T20I runs for West Indies at a strike rate of 140.1 this year.
  • MI need a power-hitter in the lower middle order to spearhead their finishing department. So, considering his recent form, Rutherford can be a decent option for them.

Mustafizur Rahman (Base Price- 2 Cr)

Why will MI target Mustafizur Rahman?

  • Bangladesh's experienced pacer Mustafizur Rahman is known for his ability to outfox batters with his guile and variation.
  • Apart from nailing yorkers, Mustafizur can bowl cutters and slow balls and is, therefore, a valuable asset in the death overs. If Mumbai Indians buy him, they can get a proper third seamer to assist Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult. This will allow them to use Boult's three overs upfront in the powerplay, with Fizz assisting Bumrah in the death overs.

Mumbai Indians' Some Other Probable Targets On Day 2: Evin Lewis, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Sam Curran, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Anshul Kamboj, Dewald Brevis, Yudhvir Charak
