Tim David unlikely to find a place in the RCB XI, Livi to play [Source: @IPL/X.Com]
RCB made some shrewd buys in the IPL 2025 mega auction as the team gears up for next season. Unlike previous seasons, this time RCB have relied on building a strong core and have focused on fixing the loopholes instead of buying superstars.
In previous seasons, RCB used to be a top heavy side which relied on the likes of Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and Ab de Villiers to deliver. However, for a change the management has invested wisely in the middle order and this could be a potential game-changing moment for the franchise.
In this piece, we talk about RCB's middle order and which player will play at which batting position.
Patidar, Livingstone at 3, 4 for RCB
With Virat Kohli opening, the number 3 spot has been owned by Rajat Patidar who continues to deliver in the shortest format. Last season, he took the responsibility of batting at this position and scored 395 runs, at a strike-rate of 177.
Moreover, his spin game will be effective as teams generally tend to bring spinners in the middle-overs. At 4, RCB will play their trump card, Liam Livingstone. If he gets going, no one can stop the Englishman and this is what the RCB team wants.
Just like Patidar, Livingstone has a brilliant game against spin and he will utilise it to perfection.
No place for Tim David, Jitesh, Krunal at 6, 7
When RCB bought Tim David, many felt that he'll be the one to bat at number 5, but with the arrival of Jacob Bethell, the equation changes. He is a left-hander and RCB don't have a left-handed batter in the top-6.
Hence, he'll be accommodated in place of Tim David who tends to struggle with spin game. At 6, RCB will play Jitesh and he can be the finisher for the side. With Dinesh Karthik retiring, RCB needed a finisher and they have found one in the Vidarbha batter. At 7, they have Krunal Pandya, who, if gets in the mood can clear the Chinnaswamy stadium with ease.
In the previous seasons, he has consistently delivered for Mumbai and Lucknow and the Red Army will hope he can do wonders for them this season.
