The Mumbai Indians have been known for their unique strategies and consistency in the recruitment of their players. They mostly look to retain a strong core and that has paid them well over the course of time, the five IPL titles is a testament to the fact.
Mumbai Indians mostly played the waiting game during the IPL 2025 mega auction. It was evident that they had specific targets in their mind and only made bids for those players. They did made some brilliant purchases but however there were a few mistakes that they committed. Here is a look at the top three mistakes by Mumbai Indians during the IPL 2025 auction.
3. Not Having Proven Back-up In The Wicketkeepers Section
The Mumbai Indians picked up Ryan Rickelton for INR 1 Cr, his base price in the mega auction. It was a fine inclusion by the five-time champions concerning that he solved their problem for the wicketkeeper as well as the opener. However, besides him the only wicketkeeping option they have is Robin Minz. Though Robin Minz has a great reputation in the domestic circuit, he is yet to prove himself at the highest level. Thus Rickelton will have to be played by MI throughout the season even if he fails to perform consistently.
2. Not Going Hard for Wanindu Hasaranga
Over the years, it has been felt that the Mumbai Indians have suffered due to the lack of a quality spin department. Though this time they have done well in that section with Mitchell Santner and Allah Ghazanfar, the inclusion of the Sri Lankan superstar, Wanindu Hasaranga could have given them a huge boost. The Mumbai Indians went after him till INR 5 Cr but then let go of him and he was picked up the Rajasthan Royals for INR 5.25 Cr. Looking at the all-round abilities of Hasaranga, this can be considered as one of the biggest blunders by the Mumbai Indians.
1. Spending INR 9.25 Cr For Deepak Chahar
The Mumbai Indians went onto spend INR 9.25 Cr for the Indian pacer, Deepak Chahar. The idea might be have been the inclusion of a new ball Indian bowler in the team. However, the ex-CSKian is known for his injury-proneness. The Indian medium pacer has often struggled with his fitness and has disappointed the team that he has been a part of, mid-season. Though he might add great value as a new ball bowler and help the team do well in this edition of the tournament, the expenditure of INR 9.25 Cr is was a bit too much.
