The next edition of the Indian Premier League is six to seven months away. However, IPL 2025 has already created a buzz among general cricket fans and followers because of the mega-auction scheduled ahead of the tournament. 

In the mega auction, the teams will have to release most players from the current squad and rebuild their teams for the upcoming season. Some players are expected to earn big bucks or start a bidding war between the franchises during the mega auction. 

Rajasthan Royals will probably retain Yashasvi Jaiswal, as he has been an integral part of their team for the last few years. However, if Jaiswal is released, he will be one of those players who will grab the franchise owners' attention. One of the teams that might go in hard for Jaiswal in the auction is Mumbai Indians. Here are three reasons why - 

Probable release of Ishan Kishan

The four most probable retentions for the Mumbai Indians will be - Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. In that case, they will have to release Ishan Kishan and look to rebuy him or retain him if he is a part of their future plans. 

However, if Jaiswal comes up in the market, they will probably go after him, as he will provide them with the flare that Ishan used to provide. Besides, Yashashvi Jaiswal is a far more consistent run-scorer than Ishan Kishan, and his arrival might offer more stability for the MI top-order.  

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s familiarity with Wankhede Stadium

Yashasvi has played his domestic cricket for the Mumbai team. Hence, he has been a regular at the Wankhede stadium and is well acquainted with the nature of the pitch. Incidentally, Wankhede Stadium is the home ground of the Mumbai Indians, and they have to play atleast seven games each season on this track. Jaiswal’s familiarity with the playing conditions will help him adapt quickly and play impactful knocks for MI. 

Understanding with Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal open for India in the Test format. These two batters have formed a good understanding between themselves in the international arena. If Rohit is retained and Jaiswal comes into the team, the familiarity with each other’s game will help the two batters flourish as an opening duo for MI. 

Strategic Fit

As mentioned, MI might have to let off Ishan Kishan before the mega auction. Kishan has served the franchise well and has played some memorable match-winning knocks for them. But inconsistency has been a concern for him. Moreover, Ishan's huge price tag might be challenging for the team to manage. 

If Ishan Kishan is released, Yashasvi Jaiswal seems to be a perfect fit in MI. His aggressive batting style will fill the vacuum created by Ishan’s departure. His familiarity with the Wankhede conditions and the batting-friendly nature of the track will allow Jaiswal to flourish in the franchise and boost his profile. However, all this will be realised by Rajasthan Royals release Yashasvi Jaiswal, which is most unlikely to happen.
