The much-awaited retention policy for IPL 2025 are out. The BCCI has made significant changes to their existing model, as they have allowed franchises to retain six teams, and there is no cap on overseas and Indian players.

Also, the Apex Cricket Board of India has made things flexible for the franchises as there is also an option of retaining all six players before the auction or obtaining them during the auction via an RTM card.

However, if the team opts to retain six players before the auction, one of them has to be uncapped. Thus, let's look at how Gujarat Titans would look to finalise their retention list ahead of the deadline date set by the BCCI.

Decoding Gujarat Titans IPL 2025 Retention Strategy

Gujarat will likely opt for six retentions before the auction and go ahead with four capped players and one uncapped star and one RTM.

4 Capped Players For GT

Shubman Gill

Gill would be GT's top-choice retention as he is the captain of the side. Further, when it comes to IPL, the prince of cricket is a force to be reckoned with. Gill is Gujarat's marquee star player. Gill has 3216 runs to his name in 103 matches and averages 37.84.

Under his leadership, GT finished eight, but they would look to turn things around in the next season.

Rashid Khan

Another top star that every franchise have set its eye on is Rashid Khan. The leg-spinner is arguably the world's best spinner in the shortest format of the game. Thus, Gujarat would look to retain Khan's services which has done wonders for the 2022 IPL winners.

Khan has already taken 56 wickets for the Titans, and the franchise would look to splash 15 crores from their increased purse value to retain Rashid.

Sai Sudharsan

Sudharsan's name might come as a surprise, but GT would look to retain him as he is one for the future. Sudarsan showed his class in the previous editions and in particular IPL 2023 final where he nearly scored a century. He had a brilliant IPL 2024 and scored 527 runs in 12 matches, which featured one century and two fifties.

Noor Ahmed

Ahmed made his debut in IPL through Gujarat Titans when he was bought for just 20 lakhs. He rose to fame quickly and formed a stunning pair with his countrymen Rashid Khan. Thus, this time around, he is likely to be GT's 4th retention.

1 Uncapped of GT for IPL 2025

Abhinav Manohar

Abhinav Manohar is one strange pick as he hasn't done extremely well for the franchise in the past. But he had a stellar run in the Maharaja T20 2024. Further, Gujarat have a weak middle-order and will Manohar's form, he can unleash in the upcoming season.

1 RTM Of GT For IPL 2025

Mohammed Shami

Gujarat finished 8th in IPL 2024 and one of the primary reasons behind their dismal form was Mohammed Shami's absence. Notably, Shami missed IPL 2024 because of a heel injury he was lethal in the previous season and also emerged as the leading wicket-taker in that edition with 28 scalps. However, he was bought for 15 crores, which is why GT would look to buy him through the RTM option.
