A tremendous series performance in South Africa has raised hopes of Virat Kohli scaling the heights and producing another bumper run with the bat during the upcoming Test assignment at home against England.

The Indian batting great top scored for the nation on extremely challenging surfaces in Centurion and Cape Town, with his 172 runs in four innings helping Rohit Sharma's men secure a historic win in Newlands and end with a 1-1 series draw.

Kohli now has his eyes set on the English challenge with a marquee Test series presenting him an opportunity to regain his prolific ways and reinforce his legendary status with the bat.

Virat Kohli To Surpass Three World Cricket Giants?

Apart from that, Kohli could be surpassing three world cricket giants - Graham Gooch, Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla - in the list of Test cricket's highest run-makers. Kohli is currently 19th in the elite list of Test match batters dominated by his inspiration and numero uno Sachin Tendulkar.

The 35-year-old doesn't have age and time up his sleeves to be able to surpass Tendulkar's jaw-dropping 15,921 runs tally one day. However, he is in with a genuine chance to edge over the former England captain and the South African batting duo during the upcoming series itself.

Holding the 16th, 17th and 18th places in the esteemed bracket of Test match players, Gooch, Smith and Amla finished their careers at the highest level with 8,900, 9,265 and 9,282 runs respectively. The Indian maestro has made 8,848 runs in his career so far with 113 Tests under his belt.

At 15th on the list is Kohli's Australian counterpart Steve Smith with his tally of 9,537 runs in 106 Tests. The former Aussie skipper is the highest run-getter at the Test level amongst active players and has the chance to further the distance from Kohli in the next two months with Tests scheduled against West Indies and New Zealand.
