Day 1 of Kanpur Test got abandoned [PTI]
There was a ton of excitement for the India Vs Bangladesh second Test in Kanpur, but that excitement faded away as rain played spoilsport and ruined the fun, not only for the fans, but for the players as well.
As the action now spills to the second day tomorrow, we try and analyse what transpired on Day 1, and how things would work on the second day of the Kanpur Test.
IND Vs BAN, 2nd Test: Rain Plays spoilsport as Mominul provides cushion to Tigers
India won the toss and Rohit Sharma elected to bowl first. The decision paid dividend as Akash Deep struck twice in the early stages to leave Bangladesh at 29/2, needing a repair work. This is when Mominul Haque joined hands with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and resurrected the sinking ship.
The duo played with cautious on a gloomy day, and added 51 runs for the third wicket and frustrated the Indian bowlers. Rain arrived to ruin the fun and when the teams came back after a mini-break, Ashwin struck with the massive wicket of Shanto as Bangladesh lost their third scalp.
At 107/3, rain intensified as the teams walked back to the pavilion and the play on Day 1 was called off due to excessive rain and bad light.
IND Vs BAN, 2nd Test: What to expect from both team in another rain-marred day?
Well, there are predictions of rain on Saturday as well, meaning that there is a possibility of a late start to the day's play. Just 35 overs was bowled on Day 1, meaning that the game is well behind the schedule.
Bangladesh haven't done bad, considering they lost two early wickets. The wicket will have some moisture at the start of Day 2, and the Tigers will look to play cautiously in the first one hour, because if they negate that period, the wicket will get a tad better to play.
For India, Rohit will hope that his bowlers can strike early and pick up a couple of wickets to jolt the Bangladesh side. Rain is scheduled for tomorrow, so the teams will need to act fast as a draw is looming large at the moment.
