Now with one all-rounder done, it is time to focus on another key player, who will bat at number 7, and will be crucial with the ball in hand as well.

Let us analyse where Ravindra Jadeja, one of the most trusted players for Rohit Sharma ranks as a player.

Ravindra Jadeja Player Profile

Having announced his arrival with a scintillating win at the 2008 Under-19 World Cup, Jadeja was one of the key players who rose through the Under-19 ranks. Alongside Virat Kohli, he was touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket.

Jadeja made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2009, and found it difficult to break through in the Indian setup. However, the Indian side, under the leadership of MS Dhoni trusted him, and he eventually delivered the goods.

The 2013 Champions Trophy was his breakthrough tournament, where Jadeja bagged the Golden Ball for his terrific performance. The all-rounder has played in two World Cups (2015, 2019), and almost steered India to the finals of the 2019 World Cup with a breath-taking 77.

Ravindra Jadeja SWOT Analysis

Strengths

  • A terrific middle-overs bowler: Jadeja has this knack of picking wickets at crucial junctures of the match. With Bumrah, Siraj and Shami doing most of the business in the first 10-15 overs, Jadeja's role becomes crucial in the middle-phase, and that is where he becomes dangerous. Whenever India need wickets in the middle-overs, Jadeja always delivers the goods.
  • A gun fielder: As they say, catches wins you matches. Jadeja, is not only a terrific bowler, but is also a brilliant fielder. You can argue that he is the best in the world when it comes to fielding. Be it inside the 30-yard circle, or near the boundary ropes, Jadeja is exceptional everywhere.
  • Ability to rescue the innings: Jadeja, who bats at number 7 for India, has this ability to deliver when it matters the most. He doesn't succumb under pressure and can play according to the match situation. A perfect example is when India lost a plethora of wickets in the 2019 WC semis, and he almost steered them past the winning line, with a marvellous 77.

Weaknesses

  • Missing the finishing touches: For someone who bats at number 7, Jadeja has most of the times failed to finish the innings for India on a high. The role of a number 7 is to finish the game with a quick-fire scores, but since 2022, Jadeja has accumulated just 55 runs in 67 balls, at a strike-rate of 82.08.
  • Gets under pressure: Just like Hardik, Jadeja gets under pressure when the opposition batter tries to attack him. It is often seen that he gets defensive with his bowling, and that is when the batters take advantage and score truckloads of runs.

Opportunities

  • Time to lead from front: Jadeja is the third most experienced player in this Indian team after Rohit and Virat. With the WC slated to be played in India, Jadeja can use all his experience and advantage of playing in home conditions to lead from the front with the ball in hand. Time to deliver in crucial knockout matches.

Threats

Injury issues: Jadeja has had a history of knee injuries, which has hampered his career. At such a big event, he would love to be 100% match-fit and play a crucial part in India's win. If Jadeja goes out injured, India's balance gets disrupted.

Mental blockage: Jadeja has all the experience in the world, and he has performed exceptionally well in the past with the bat. But at the moment, he is low in confidence, and the big question arises - when the time comes, will Jadeja be able to score big for his side?
