Big Bash League 2024-25 season is heading into the knockout stage with Hobart Hurricanes set to clash with Sydney Sixers in the Qualifier round. The clash will be held on January 21 at the Bellerive Oval from 2.00 PM IST.
Hobart Hurricanes
Hobart Hurricanes had a sensational season in BBL 14 as they finished at the top of the table with 15 points in 10 games. Though they lost the last league fixture against Melbourne Stars as the latter posted a mammoth total of 216 runs batting first. The Hurricanes failed to build partnerships and wasted good starts to endure a 40-run defeat.
Regardless, the Hurricanes’ combination has been strong and balanced. Mitchell Owen, Nikhil Chaudhary, Tim David and Nathan Ellis have been in good form. Given the tournament record and recent form, the Hurricanes stand a great chance to beat the Sixers in the high-stakes clash.
Sydney Sixers
Sydney Sixers grabbed 14 points in 10 games to finish second on the points table. Their last league game against the Thunder was washed out, but they did register a win against the Adelaide Strikers in the 35th fixture. After being tasked to chase 183 runs, Steve Smith, the man in form, slammed a half-century before Lachlan Shaw and Ben Dwarshuis contributed with 30 odd runs to steer the Sixers to a three-wicket victory.
While the game was pushed to the final over, the Sixers held their nerves to cross the finish line. Meanwhile, Sydney Sixers have also shown a lot of promise in BBL 14 season. However, Smith won’t be a part of the knockout stages anymore and hence, the team must adjust the composition smartly.
