The second ODI of the ongoing New Zealand Women’s tour of India will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on October 27. With their male counterparts registering their first-ever Test series victory in India today, it should be enough a motivation for the Women to avoid a series loss with a match to be played.

Fresh off a maiden ICC T20 World Cup victory, New Zealand Women have themselves achieved a significant milestone this month to remain inspired. With a 9-11 head-to-head record against India in India, it shouldn’t be impossible for them to stage a comeback.

Harmanpreet Kaur Boost For India?

Out of the first ODI with a niggle, it remains unclear if India captain Harmanpreet Kaur will return to action for this match. Assuming she manages to regain full fitness, one out of Dayalan Hemalatha or Tejal Hasabnis will have to be benched.

With a lot of unsupportive opinions, including some with accurate justifications, being made on her captaincy, Kaur would be eager to shun her critics with an ODI series victory especially with a World Cup to be played in less than a year’s time. Her batting, on the other hand, remains safe as ever.

Amelia Kerr Blow For New Zealand

While India await the availability of their captain, New Zealand are dealing with a major blow in the form of star all-rounder Amelia Kerr’s fitness. Having made sizeable contributions across departments in the first ODI at the same venue, the 24-year old player has been ruled out of the tour due to a left quadricep muscle tear. 20-year old left-arm spinner Fran Jonas is the frontrunner to replace Kerr in the Playing XI.

How Will the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium Pitch Behave?

Bundled out for 227 in the 45th over, the general consensus around the Indian innings was how they ended up with a below par innings total on a pitch which had more for the batters. While India still managed to win the match by 59 runs, both the teams would want to capitalize fully on the batting potential of Ahmedabad’s pitches. It is noteworthy that both the pacers and spinners will also have crucial roles to play depending on when they’ll be bowling.

IND W vs NZ W: Predicted Toss Result

Of the five Women’s ODIs played in the city, four have been won by the team batting first. While chasing teams have done comparatively better in Men’s ODIs, there’s still a lot of benefit to reap by batting first at this venue.
