Hayley Matthews To Open? Mumbai Indians' Probable XI vs Delhi Capitals

The highly anticipated second edition of the Women’s Premier League- WPL 2024 is set to kick off this month. Defending champions Mumbai Indians Women will square off against runners-up Delhi Capitals Women in a rematch of last season's final on February 23rd at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

In the history of the WPL, these two teams have faced each other three times. Mumbai Indians emerged victorious in two matches, while the Delhi Capitals secured one win.

Both teams look strong on paper and will be eager to secure points in their opening match to set the tone for the tournament. Mumbai Indians Women has retained its core team from the previous season, fostering familiarity among the players.

Mumbai boast a formidable bowling attack, giving them a competitive edge. Additionally, their batting lineup boasts depth, a factor they intend to exploit.

Last season, Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia provided strong starts at the top of the order for Mumbai. The team relies on their contributions once again. 

The middle order, featuring Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Amelia Kerr, aims to build crucial partnerships. Pooja Vastrakar, Issy Wong, and Amanjot Kaur bolster the batting lineup further down.

With Yastika Bhatia keeping wickets and partnering with star all-rounder Hayley Matthews at the top, Mumbai aims for stability. Nat Sciver-Brunt occupies the third spot, followed by the experienced Harmanpreet Kaur. 

The trio of all-rounders - Amelia Kerr, Amanjot Kaur, and Pooja Vastrakar - add depth to the lineup. 

Saika Ishaque, the standout performer with the ball in the previous season, slots in at number eight. Issy Wong, Jintimani Kalita, and Humaira Khazi complete the team.
