The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 kicks off on April 11 amid high stakes, with franchises banking on star power to clinch the coveted title. However, several marquee players enter the tournament with lingering fitness concerns, casting a shadow over their availability.
From recent recoveries to chronic injury histories, here are five high-profile names at risk of premature exits during the tournament that can jeopardize their franchise's future.
1. Fakhar Zaman - Lahore Qalandars
While Fakhar Zaman has been declared fit for the PSL opener after recovering from a Champions Trophy 2025 oblique muscle strain, he runs the risk of being ruled out of the tournament.
The explosive opener’s return to full training came just days before the tournament, with Lahore Qalandars CEO confirming his availability.
However, his rushed rehab timeline and history of playing through pain, evident when he batted injured during the CT25 chase vs New Zealand, raise concerns. Medical staff will monitor his movement closely, especially during high-intensity fielding drills.
2. Kane Williamson - Karachi Kings
Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the first five matches due to a quad strain sustained during the Champions Trophy 2025 final against India.
The Kiwi batter’s absence until April 25 leaves Karachi Kings vulnerable. Even upon return, his susceptibility to soft-tissue injuries and PSL’s back-to-back fixtures could trigger setbacks. Franchise owner Salam Iqbal hinted at "managing his workload," but Karachi’s playoff push may force risky early deployments.
3. Adam Milne - Karachi Kings
An ankle injury ruled Adam Milne out of New Zealand’s Pakistan tour in April 2024 and notably, Adam Milne’s career has been marred by recurring lower-body issues, he’s played just 40% of the franchise leagues he’s been part of since 2020.
With Karachi already missing Williamson, Milne’s role as pace spearhead increases injury likelihood. His history of stress fractures and muscle tears makes him a walking red flag.
4. Kyle Jamieson - Quetta Gladiators
Returned for Champions Trophy 25 after a 10-month back injury layoff but bowled just 12 overs in the tournament. The towering pacer admitted feeling "at the bottom of the cliff" during rehab.
Despite NCA clearance, his bowling load in PSL’s busy weeks could reaggravate lumbar stress. Islamabad’s reliance on his bounce at Rawalpindi adds pressure.
5. Haris Rauf - Lahore Qalandars
Haris Rauf, Lahore Qalandars’ pace spearhead, is a key player whose injury history raises concerns for PSL 2025. His career has been punctuated by fitness challenges. In June 2024, he suffered a minor hamstring strain during a T20 World Cup clash, which limited his bowling effectiveness for the remainder of the tournament.
Additionally, his aggressive bowling style, regularly clocking speeds above 150 km/h, places immense strain on his body, making him susceptible to injuries like muscle tears and stress fractures.
