The first T20I saw Irish hearts break again as the rain gods ruthlessly came to the rescue of India. Regardless of the loss we saw some emerging great performances from some Irish cricketers including Craig Young who took 2 wickets to bring his side back into the game which ended in unfortunate circumstances.

This 33-year-old Irish pacer has consistently performed for Ireland in white ball cricket in his 8-year career. Young is currently the 4th highest wicket-taker for Ireland in T20I and 8th highest wicket-taker in ODI’s with 124 wickets from 93 matches in international cricket.

Even though Young might not be the quickest bowler compared to Irish stars like Boyd Rankin, his accuracy and ability to swing the ball have proved effective for Ireland. With his growth in T20 cricket, he is proving to be a vital asset for Ireland and will be a bowler to watch out for in the future.

Craig Young has had a major impact on Irish cricket in recent years, especially in T20I where he has taken 59 wickets from 54 matches averaging only 23.95 and has a decent economy of 7.97. The numbers show that he has displayed some great performances for Ireland where in wins he has taken 28 wickets from 20 innings with an impressive economy of 6.56 and a great average of 16.2.

This indicates his massive contribution to the side in winning the big games. In losing causes he has taken 28 wickets in 31 innings. Despite his economy being slightly high at 8.83 he still has a decent average of 31.3 and a great strike rate of 21.3 as well which tells us that he still makes breakthroughs and takes big wickets when the team is in a tough position. His dot ball percentage in both outcomes is also impeccable where in losses it is 41.8% and in wins, it is 46.3% which in terms of T20 cricket is tough to achieve.

Climbing the Cricket Ladder: Craig Young's Steady Rise to Prominence

Along with his contribution to the Irish team in international cricket, it is also important to talk about his Cricketing journey as well. As he has struggled to establish himself in the team in his earlier years. His performances at the start of the 2020s are where he established himself as a regular in the Irish setup. In 2020 his performances were close to subpar where even though he had managed a great economy rate of 7.67 and an average of 28.8 he could not take a lot of wickets.

His numbers in 2021 are disappointing as well with only 4 wickets in 8 innings with a high average of 58.2. 2022 was one of Young’s best years in T20I’s where he took 21 wickets from 11 innings with an economy of 7.59 and averaged 14.8. This was the year when Craig Young grew from just an economy bowler to a wicket-taking bowler.

Conclusion

Overall Craig Young has not established himself as a skilled bowler but also reliable in crucial moments as well. With his ability and technique and skill, he can be one of the stars who can Irish cricket to great heights. The future of Young looks bright and we hope he can continue his consistent performances in the upcoming matches to establish himself in T20 World Cup Qualifiers as well.
