The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were at the centre of attraction during the auction day as the franchise invested smartly in some of the players, but also splashed out unnecessary money on average players.

Interestingly, the team management's focus was building a strong side while focusing on the loopholes. While RCB somewhat managed to close their loopholes, they also invested in players who were not needed in the squad.

Hence with the auction over, we look at RCB's 3 worst buys, with an Indian player also included in the list.

RCB Full squad IPL 2025

Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Krunal Pandya, Rajat Patidar, Yash Dayal, Liam Livingstone, Phil Salt, Jitesh Sharma, Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Dar, Swapnil Singh, Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Manoj Bhandage, Jacob Bethell, Devdutt Padikkal, Swastik Chhikara, Lungi Ngidi, Abhinandan Singh, Mohit Rathee, and Suyash Sharma, Nuwan Thushara.

RCB 3 Worst Buys In IPL 2025 Auction

3) Devdutt Padikkal

  • Perhaps the worst buy in the IPL auction, Padikkal's game doesn't suit the T20 format, and investing in him was not the right decision. In the last two seasons, he has just scored 299 runs, with just two fifty-plus scores.
  • He will struggle on slow pitches. In conditions like Chepauk and Ekana, where the ball tends to stay low, Padikkal will struggle for runs since his spin game is not upto the mark.

2) Tim David

  • RCB had the golden chance to get back Will Jacks using RTM, but they decided to buy Tim David, who has struggled in the league previously. MI showed a lot of faith in him, but the finisher hardly finishes the game for his IPL side.
  • Just like Padikkal, Tim David struggles to score runs Vs spin. He is a brilliant striker of pace bowling, but teams generally prefer bringing in spinners when David comes out to bat. Hence, spending 3 crore on him was not the right decision.

1) Krunal Pandya

  • It was 7 years ago when Krunal Pandya had his best IPL season, scoring 243 runs, and picking up 10 wickets. Since then, his IPL career hasn't been the same, and last season, the all-rounder scored just 133 runs, and picked up only 6 wickets.
  • Krunal is not a wicket-taking option, and at Chinnaswamy, simply containing runs won't work for the team. RCB have spent 5.75 crores, and for that amount, RCB will want Krunal to deliver from both the bat and ball.
