The preparations for IPL 2026 are in full swing, and all ten teams are working around the clock to finalise their squad ahead of the next season. There are reports that the BCCI has set the deadline for retentions to be November 15.
At present, the trade window is still open, and in the latest development, there are reports that three franchises are interested in signing Ishan Kishan from Sunrisers Hyderabad. Notably, the former MI star, who was bought by the Men in Orange for 11.25 crores in IPL 2025.
The report from The Times of India mentioned that the Mumbai Indians are interested in bringing the southpaw back to the helm alongside the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Rajasthan Royals.
Why is Ishan Kishan in high demand?
There are several reasons behind Ishan Kishan being in high demand among franchises. Notably, most of the teams are looking for keeper-batters who can also open the innings.
Further, if we look at Ishan Kishan's last season, then the southpaw amassed 354 runs in 13 innings, averaging 35.40. Thus, a player of such quality is required by every team.
Why are Mumbai Indians interested in Ishan Kishan?
For MI, Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton opened the innings last season, and now, with Rohit Sharma set to turn 39 next year, the five-time IPL winners are looking for a long-term replacement.
Rickelton has done well for MI, but it is always nice to have a quality backup opener in case of any unforeseen event.
Why are Rajasthan Royals interested in Ishan Kishan?
For the Rajasthan Royals, they too have turmoil in their batting order, as there are reports that Sanju Samson is not interested in continuing with the Men in Pink and is looking for a way out of the team.
In case anything of that sort occurs, then RR needs to have a player of quality like Ishan Kishan to replace Sanju Samson.
Why are KKR looking for Ishan Kishan?
KKR are having a genuine struggle at the top as they have two overseas stars opening the innings for them, and neither of them seems to be clicking.
Quinton de Kock and Rahmanullah Gurbaz are not scoring runs, plus occupying the two overseas slots.
