On Thursday, Sunrisers Eastern Cape locked horns against MI Cape Town in the first match of SA20 2025 at St. George Park in Port Elizabeth. The Aiden Markram-led won the toss and asked MI to bat first.

The decision turned out to be great as the Sunrisers got three early wickets. As soon as the fans thought that the Men in Orange were at the top, Dewald Brevis turned the course of the match as he scored the first fifty of the season.

Notably, Brevis scored a blistering 23-ball fifty, which featured two fours and five sixes. Brevis lit up the league with his sensational knock. Interestingly, the 21-year-old sensation, who previously represented Mumbai Indians, found no bidders at the IPL 2025 mega-auction and went unsold despite registering at a base price of 75 lakhs.

Meanwhile, this article will shed light on three teams that can buy Brevis back as a replacement for IPL 2025 in case of an injury or backing out by a player.

1. Mumbai Indians

Notably, Brevis represented Mumbai Indians from 2022-24 before being released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction. The move wasn't questioned as Brevis wasn't making runs with the bat. However, he has silenced the critics with his blistering knock and looked in great touch.

Thus, MI would look to bring Brevis back as they also fear Ryan Rickelton's workload. Notably, Rickelton, who shone in the 2nd Test against Pakistan, had issues with his hamstring, he came to bat in the 2nd innings, but MI would keep an eye on his fitness and Brevis would definitely be one replacement option.

2. KKR

Similarly for MI, KKR also sweat on a few batters' fitness such as Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Notably, Gurbaz, who recovered from a recent injury, is set to play in SA20 2025. However, KKR would finalise a few backup options and Brevis would be one of them.

Since Brevis is also a good player of spin, playing at Eden Gardens would be a great option for Baby AB as well.

3. Punjab Kings

Talking about the overseas pool for Punjab Kings for IPL 2025, they have Josh Inglis, who will rest of BBL 2024-25 because of an injury. Now since IPL is also less than three months away, PBKS would look for replacements.

Brevis would be the perfect pitch because of the flat track and also short boundaries, which is closer to Brevis' home conditions in South Africa.
