Marco Jansen got the opening breakthrough for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape against MI Cape Town in match number one of the SA20 2025 season. Taking field at the St George's Park in Gqeberha, the speedster trapped MI Cape Town opener Reeza Hendricks for a three-ball duck in just the first over of the match after Eastern Cape skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to field first.

Tom Abell, stationed at extra cover, snared a sharp catch inside the ring to assist Jansen as the Eastern Cape got off to an electric start in their title-defense 2025 campaign.

Marco Jansen gets Hendricks in first over

Bowling the first over of the match for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, lanky paceman Marco Jansen struck in the fourth ball of his opening spell by getting rid of MI Cape Town opener and national teammate Reeza Hendricks. Hurling down a short and a slightly wider delivery outside the off-stump, Hendricks attempted to punch the ball off the back foot, only to find Tom Abell well inside the ring.

Reeza Hendricks’ first over dismissal prompted an early arrival of MI Cape Town number three and wicketkeeper-batter Connor Esterhuizen into the crease. The MI Cape Town finished their opening powerplay at 36-2.

Marco Jansen, who claimed the first wicket of the SA20 2025 season through his early strike, has been in prolific touch with the ball off late. Earlier this month, the cricketer finished South Africa’s two-match Test series against Pakistan with 10 wickets across four innings.

Jansen also claimed six wickets against the ‘Men in Green’ in the preceding ODIs, and devoured Sri Lanka back in November with 14 wickets in two Test matches.
