The year 2023 is finally coming to an end, and it will arguably go down as one of the best years in women's cricket. Women's cricket scaled new heights this year, with the Asian Games and Women's Premier League being top events.

Of course, just like every year, some players stood out while a few let down as well. Speaking of the ODI format, fewer 50-over format games were played this year. For example, the Indians played only three ODI games in 2023.

Nonetheless, the impact weighs more than the numbers. So here's presenting the Women's ODI Team Of The Year 2023.

Women's ODI Team Of The Year 2023

Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa) 🇿🇦

South African opener Laura Wolvaardt hit 413 runs across nine ODI games with a healthy strike rate of 79.57 in 2023. She also hit two centuries and as many fifties to complete a dream year. While Wolvaardt witnessed a much better run in 2022, the number of games was almost halved in 2023. Moreover, the opener recently earned captaincy across all formats for the South African women's cricket team.

Smriti Mandhana (India) 🇮🇳

Undoubtedly, the Indian side played the least number of ODI games this year. Regardless, India's star opening batter, Smriti Mandhana, left a profound impact. Across three games, she hit 106 runs at a decent strike rate of 68.38, which included a half-century as well. Mandhana has been the Women in Blue's anchor, and she certainly lived up to the reputation.

Chamari Athapaththu (c) (Sri Lanka) 🇱🇰

A stalwart of women's cricket, Chamari Athapaththu's leadership and aggressive batting style make her an ideal captain. Her ability to dominate opposition bowling attacks makes her a true match-winner. In 2023, she unleashed her dominance by scoring 415 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 125.37 in eight ODI games. She also slammed her second-highest ODI score (140*).

Ellyse Perry (Australia) 🇦🇺

Australian veteran Ellyse Perry channeled her inner batter into guiding Australia to glory in the ODI format this year. She recorded 342 runs at a healthy strike rate of 86.80 across 10 games in 2023. Perry also scored three half-centuries, with her highest score being 91 runs. While Perry wasn't effective from the other side of the ball, she surely stepped up with the bat.

Beth Mooney (wk) (Australia) 🇦🇺

Beth Mooney has been a strong force for the Australian cricket team for over a while now. Her consistency has elevated her stature in ODI cricket. In 2023, Mooney once again batted from the front to provide the Aussies an edge. In 11 50-format games played this year, Beth scored 387 runs at an above-average strike rate of 91.48, which also included a hundred and two fifties. That makes Mooney a perfect wicket-keeping candidate for the 2023 ODI team.

Nat Sciver-Brunt (England) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

English all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt's all-round skills make her a valuable asset in the middle order. She scored 393 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 107.37 in six ODI games played this year. Interestingly, Sciver converted each of her starts into big scores to register three hundred this year. Not only that, the English woman clipped three wickets in the three games that she bowled.

Ashleigh Gardner (Australia) 🇦🇺

Ashleigh Gardner emerged as a strong bowling all-rounder this year for Australia. She accumulated 179 runs in 11 ODI in 2023. But Gardner unleashed her carnage with the ball. She clipped as many as 21 wickets with a commendable economy of 3.86. Her best figures include 3/30.

Marizanne Kapp (South Africa) 🇿🇦

The South African veteran delivered from both ends of the ball in 2023. Marizanne Kapp hit 300 runs in eight ODI games with a healthy strike rate of 88.49, including a hundred and as many fifties. Not only that, but Kapp also provided her side an edge by living up to her all-around abilities. Marizanne picked six wickets at a handsome economy of 3.98.

Deepti Sharma (India) 🇮🇳

Deepti Sharma is a top-notch spinning option. While India played a low number of ODI games, Sharma didn't fail to mark her presence. She had two wickets to her name in the three games that she played this year. Her economy of 2.80 definitely stood out.

Jess Jonassen (Australia) 🇦🇺

Tweaker Jess Jonassen led the Australian cricket team's bowling unit from the front this year. She managed to collect 10 wickets to her name in the eight ODIs she played in 2023. Jonassen's economy (4.53) and best figure 3/30 make her a must-have spin-bowling option for any side whatsoever.

Ayabonga Khaka (South Africa) 🇿🇦

The South African pacer, Ayabonga Khaka, had a decent season in 2023. Across nine ODI games, she picked nine wickets at a handsome economy of 4.00. Khaka has always been Proteas's backbone when it comes to bowling depth, and she certainly lived up to her potential.
