Indian women’s cricket team etched its name into the history books with a memorable win over the Australian women’s team earlier this week. In the lone test of the extended Australia tour of India, the hosts dominated with the ball to secure its first-ever test victory over the mighty Aussies.

With that, the action will shift to red-ball cricket. The Indian women’s team will square off with Australia in three ODIs and as many T20s over the course of the next couple of weeks.

Subsequently, the BCCI officially announced the squads for the forthcoming white ball leg.

For the 50-over format, Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the side, and explosive opener Smriti Mandhana will act as deputy. Veterans Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana will lead the bowling unit.

That being said, the selection committee has trusted the young guns to deliver for this pivotal series. The likes of Jemimah Rodriguez, Pooja Vastrakar, and Shafali Verma, who impressed in the lone test, will remain a part of the ODI squad. Rookie Shreyanka Patil also made the cut.

Furthermore, the T20 squad is nearly identical to the ODI squad. Kanika Ahuja and Minnu Mani are the two backups added for the shorter format.

The ODI series will kick off on 28th December 2023 at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium. Once the three-game series concludes on 2nd January, the carnival will shift to DY Patil Stadium for the T20 series.

Overall, the fans must expect action-packed performances from both sides in this crucial whiteball series. India and Australia showed elite competitiveness and passion during the recently concluded test game, and the same fierceness is expected to unravel in the white ball leg as well.

But undoubtedly, the Indian side will start as favorites owing to their recent form and track record in home conditions. The Mumbai venues have largely benefited the Indian players in the past. Thus, Indian women are expected to take full advantage of the home conditions.
