The veteran spinner finished as the second highest wicket-taker for the nation in the purest for match of the game.

When we consider only spinners, then Ashwin is fourth in the list of wicket-takers in international cricket. The list is topped by the legendary Muttiah Muralitharan who had 1,347 Test wickets in 495 matches. Shane Warne is the second man in the list with 1,001 wickets in 339 matches. The other Indian in the top four of this list besides Ashwin is Anil Kumble who has 956 wickets in 403 matches, followed by Ashwin with 765 wickets in 287 international matches.
