India are set to host England in a thrilling five-match T20I series starting tomorrow, (January 22) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. This series marks the first encounter between the two teams since India defeated England in the semi-finals of the Men's T20 World Cup 2024. 

The Indian squad for this series features some notable absentees, including Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill, all of whom have been given rest. 

One of the most significant updates to the squad is the return of pace spearhead Mohammed Shami. After a long break due to ankle surgery following the ODI World Cup final 2023 , Shami is ready to make his comeback. His presence will add much-needed firepower to the Indian bowling lineup, alongside Arshdeep Singh, who has been a crucial player for India in T20I format.

1. Hardik Pandya

Since making his debut in July 2022, he has played 60 matches, taking 95 wickets at an economy rate of 8.32 and an average of 18.10. His consistency and ability to strike at crucial moments will make him a crucial player for India vs England T20Is. 
  • Arshdeep has been included in India’s squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 due to consistent performance.With his ability to take key wickets and maintain pressure in the death overs, Arshdeep is poised to be a crucial player for India in the high-stakes series against England.

3. Varun Chakaravarthy

  • Varun Chakravarthy is in red-hot form in domestic cricket, he has taken 19 wickets in just six innings, which also includes two remarkable five-wicket hauls. His recent standout performance came during the knockout stages of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. 
  • Another factor that makes him a crucial player for the England T20Is is that he has prior experience playing at Eden Gardens for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. And it is worth mentioning, that he is well-versed with the conditions and has performed well at this venue. 
  •  Chakaravarthy has featured in 13 T20Is, and has taken 19 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.79. His recent form and all with other factors makes him potential match-winner for India in the upcoming T20I series against England.
