Reasons why Babar should be dropped [Source: @grassrootscric/X.Com]
Another Test innings and another failure for Pakistan's Babar Azam. The torrid time doesn't seems to stop as the charismatic player got off to a decent start, but once again got dismissed at a crucial juncture. When Pakistan needed their most experienced batter to stay at the crease in a tricky run-chase, Babar gave up and was dismissed after grinding out in the middle.
It has been 61 Test innings and Babar hasn't scored a century in this format. His last Test ton goes back to December 2022 when he smacked his last century against the Kiwis at home. Since then, it has been all downhill for the star batter.
There are many talented players waiting in the wings and 61 innings without anything promising is a lot. Pakistan, after the conclusion of the second Test Vs West Indies should look for a change and here's why they should drop Babar.
3) No winning contribution in more than 2 years
As stated before, the last good innings of Babar Azam in Tests came in December 2022, and since then, 2023 and 2024 has passed by and yet he hasn't contributed anything significant with the bat.
It is interesting to note that he found his form in the away Test series Vs South Africa, but on home conditions, he has struggled to replicate the same. He looks under-confident and the bowlers have found this out. His Test average in 2023 was 22.66, the same dropped to 20 in 2024, and now, it is 30 in 2025.
2) Not improving on the same mistakes
Since 2023, Babar Azam has been found out with the deliveries coming back to him. For some reason, he has failed to cope with the ball which comes back into him and it has led to his demise so many times. Even in the ongoing second innings, Kevin Sinclair bowled an off-break which came back in and the batter failed to deal with him.
A batter with so much experience and yet Babar once again failed to cope up with the ball which comes back in.
1) Batters waiting in the wings
There are so many domestic talents like Tayyab Tahir, Azan Awais, and Sahibzada Farhan, who are talented players, and yet are waiting to make their Test debuts.
Pakistan cricket, unlike India, don't give too many chances to its players, and hence, it is fitting if the selectors decide to bring in a fresh, energetic player to replace Babar.babar
