India not to travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy [Source: @CricCrazyJohns/X.Com]
Well, it is almost inevitable as BCCI have officially told ICC that the Indian team won't travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. BCCI are adamant for a Hybrid model, just like the Asia Cup 2023, when Pakistan was the host nation, but India played its matches in Sri Lanka.
As per ESPNCricinfo, the government of India has denied permission to the Indian team to travel to Pakistan, and now the tournament fate once again hangs in jeopardy. So, with India not travelling, PCB and ICC need to find a solution as a new venue needs to be explored for the Indian team.
In this article, we have listed down 3 potential venues for India if we follow the hybrid model.
3) Sri Lanka
There is a good chance that just like the Asia Cup 2023, Sri Lanka can once again be the venue for all India matches in the Champions Trophy. For the last few months, there have been speculations that Sri Lanka was kept on the stand by as one of the potential venues for the Champions Trophy games.
The Indian team played its matches in Colombo during the Asia Cup and the venue could once again be on India's radar for the upcoming event.
2) UAE
UAE is the most likely destination for India matches in the Champions Trophy. It is in close proximity to Pakistan and the other teams who will play against India can easily fly from Pakistan to UAE. Plus, logistically it will be an easy choice for the organisers, and hence, UAE is high on radar.
However, the pitches in UAE might not suit India's game and there could be a temptation to avoid the Gulf nation.
1) India
BCCI is the richest cricketing board and are known to influence their decisions in ICC meetings. Hence, don't rule out the possibility of having the India matches in their own country. Again, just like UAE, India is nearby to Pakistan and that would make travelling a lot easier.
Plus, the Indian side, one of the favourites for the Champions Trophy know the Indian conditions on the back of their hands and could take advantage of the home conditions. However, Pakistan is likely to object this decision, especially since the original plan was to have the entire event in their country.
