The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a strong Bangladeshi squad for the highly anticipated 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, as the cricket-crazy nation hopes for its first-ever senior men’s ICC title. However, before the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side can take field for their tournament opener, a few concerns remain, particularly regarding the form of certain players.

Here, we take a look at three Bangladeshi superstars who are struggling with their form off late.

3. Towhid Hridoy

While Towhid Hridoy enjoyed a prolific BPL 2024-25 season with the bat for Fortune Barishal by minting over 300 runs in 13 innings, his ODI form seems to be one of the major areas of concerns for the travelling Bangladesh team for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. In the six ODI matches he played throughout the year 2024, the cricketer managed to list just 150 runs at a lowly strike rate of 76.14. Averaging just 30 in the format, Hridoy scored 96 of his 150 runs in a single innings, and managed to tally just 29 runs during Bangladesh’s three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in November.

2. Mehidy Hasan Miraz

Bangladesh’s senior all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz continued to make merry with the bat in the recently-concluded BPL 2024-25 season. After racking up over 300 runs in ODIs during the 2024 calendar year, the cricketer plundered 355 runs in BPL for Khulna Tigers at a healthy batting average.

However, it is Mehidy Hasan’s dwindling form with the ball that might hurt Bangladesh’s Champions Trophy prospects in Pakistan and in the UAE. In his last nine ODI matches for Bangladesh since January 2024, the cricketer has managed to pick up just eight wickets at an expensive bowling average of 50.62. Miraz’s off-spin also turned out to be highly ineffective in BPL 2024-25, where he was taken for runs at nearly 30 a wicket, and held an expensive economy rate of 7.71.

1. Mushfiqur Rahim

Mushfiqur Rahim, a veteran of 272 ODI matches, has hauled nearly 8,000 runs in the format and is the seniormost member in Bangladesh’s 2025 Champions Trophy composition. One of Bangladesh’s leading run-makers of all time, the 37-year-old underwent a below-par BPL 2024-25 season for the Fortune Barishal franchise. In his nine outings with the bat in the tournament, the seasoned campaigner managed to cart just 184 runs at substandard average and strike rate.
