Rishabh Pant was bought for INR 27 crores by Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction. There was a ton of expectations from the new LSG skipper, but the hopes soon turned into agony as with 10 matches done and dusted in the league, he is yet to play a match-winning knock.
Perhaps the huge price tag is affecting his batting and the captaincy burden has also taken a toll as the maverick southpaw has so far failed to justify the price. As compared to last season, Pant has looked a pale shadow of himself, and in this article, we will compare his IPL stats from 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Analysing Pant's IPL 2024, 2025 stats
Criterion | IPL 2024 | IPL 2025 |
Matches | 10 | 10 |
Runs | 371 | 106 |
Strike-rate | 160.6 | 96.36 |
50s | 3 | 1 |
As the table suggests, there has been a massive downfall in Pant's IPL numbers from last season. In 2024, he returned back from a horrific injury and had a stellar first 10 matches where he scored 371 runs and most importantly struck at 160.
However, this season, he only has 106 runs in 10 games so far, but surprisingly, has a strike rate of less than 100, which in itself is a baffling thing. Pant is known for his aggressive game, but so far, he has failed to create any sort of impact. Also, last season, by now, he had 3 fifty-plus scores, while this season, he only has a solitary one, which showcases his downfall.
Why Pant is struggling this season?
Price tag burden: Clearly, the 27 crore price tag is hampering his batting performance. He became the most expensive buy in IPL history and this didn't do anything good for Pant's IPL career.
With such a bug price tag, he is expected to deliver in every game, and when he fails, people run after him, something which clearly bothers the LSG skipper.
Entry point not fixed: Normally, Pant bats at number 3 or max at number 4, his usual batting position is at 4, however, this season, there is no fixed position for him. Sometimes he has opened the innings and on other days, the batter came out at number 7 and this hampered his batting performance.
