Rishabh Pant sustained a nasty foot injury while batting against England on Day 1 of the fourth Test match at Old Trafford in Manchester. Batting alongside Sai Sudharsan at 37*, Pant attempted an unconventional reverse sweep off England paceman Chris Woakes, only for the ball to get crashed into the side of his boot off an inside-edge.
The cricketer was subsequently attended by Team India physio and was stretchered off the field, prompting all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to arrive to the crease.
Sanjiv Goenka Wishes ‘Speedy Recovery’ To Rishabh Pant
Ahead of Day 2 of the Old Trafford Test, Rishabh Pant’s IPL boss and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka took to X and shared a grit-fuelled message for the cricketer. In an inspiring ‘get well soon’ message, Goenka wished Pant a speedy recovery and called the Indian wicketkeeper-batter and injury-prone Rishabh Pant a “fighter”.
Sanjiv Goenka wrote:
“Wishing you a speedy recovery, Rishabh. You’re a fighter, and we know you’ll come back stronger.”
The incident occurred during the 68th over of the Indian innings in the final session of Day 1. Rishabh Pant complained of severe pain after getting hit on his foot, and was carried off the field at 37* off 48 balls.
While it remains to be seen if Pant will return to bat later in the innings, Sai Sudharsan dropped a concerning message for Indian fans ahead of Day 2, hinting at the cricketer’s absence. Sudharsan said that while Rishabh Pant was batting really well at the crease, Team India will miss a batter if he does not return to the field.
Team India will now resume on Day 2 at 264-4 from 83 overs, with unbeaten Ravindra Jadeja (19*) and comeback man and all-rounder Shardul Thakur (19*) finding themselves in the middle of an unbroken 29-run partnership.
