With barely less than a month to go for the iconic Cricket World Cup to be held in India, New Zealand's Trent Boult has kept his hopes and ambition high as he returned to international cricket after a sabbatical of almost a year. Making his comeback against England in the second ODI and instantly leaving an impact with a three-for early on in the innings, the left-arm pacer revealed some challenging moments for him.

Boult, who also was featuring in his 100th ODI, revealed that he is pleased to be back in the black jersey. With bowling figures of 3/37, the pacer found himself included in the provisional World Cup squad that was released shortly after the game concluded.

"It was great to be back in familiar surroundings. It was a very good feeling, chucking back on the black ODI kit - and on the side, the individual milestone of 100 games added to that feeling as well. Your spot is never guaranteed, and the decision was made over a year ago,"

Adding to it, the 34-year cricketer who decided to forego his central contract last year reveals that the contracted players were prioritised, which is absolutely fine, according to him.

"I decided to step aside and fully appreciated that giving my contract back would open the door to other players to come through. Selections were prioritised for the contracted 20 [players] in New Zealand, and I fully appreciated that,"

Further, he went on to mention that his spot was never guaranteed in the side after he left the contract, which is okay because he wasn't made any assurances of his selection in the ICC tournaments. And now, when he is in the squad, he aims to ensure that they go deep into the tournament.

"Selection for the World Cup was never guaranteed, and I was never expecting it to be. I had to work for it, and I'm very happy to be here. I just hope I can add value and take the tournament very deep, like we have in the last couple of attempts. I feel like we can really push this tournament to the final stages and give it a good crack."

Returning to the current series, the BlackCaps had to face the loss in the second game and next, will come out to play on 13th September in the 3rd ODI of the series.
