India recently won the T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean and have continued their good form in the shortest format. They registered series wins in Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka and have now taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series against Bangladesh. However, amidst this dominance against Bangladesh, the two Indian openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma have not lived upto their billing.

Both have got starts in the two matches they have played, but have not been able to convert it into substantial and it might cost them their place when other players arrive for the next series. In this series, the likes of Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant all have been rested while Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan were selected for Irani Cup which has provided the opportunity to open for the duo.

Aakash Chopra Wants Samson And Abhishek Sharma To Utilise Their Chances

Now, Aakash Chopra has also warned Samson and Abhishek Sharma that they might regret wasting their chances in future. The former opener added that both players need to play long knocks to stake a claim for a permanent spot  in the Indian side.

"My last topic is actually the openers. Abhishek Sharma is one and Sanju Samson is also there along with him. It is a crude reminder that two knocks have passed and you haven't contributed significantly. You have the license to play long knocks."

Chopra added that big players might comeback for the South African tour and Samson along with Abhishek Sharma might miss the cut on that tour.

When the South Africa tour comes, who knows Yashasvi, Shubman and Ruturaj might be available, and Sanju and Abhishek are opening. Suddenly you have five openers and five won't play. Ishan Kishan might also start knocking on the door after some time. When you find yourself in that situation, you might regret that you wasted your chances."

The third T20I will be played on Saturday, 12th of October in Hyderabad and it would be interesting to see how the Indian opening duo goes about its business.
