In the recently ended Champions Trophy, Team India showcased their redemption and secured the big trophy. In the entire tournament, the Men in Blue showcased their domination and won the trophy with an unbeaten streak. But among all the players, Shreyas Iyer’s performance grabbed the attention.
Iyer played a crucial role in team India’s campaign in the Champions Trophy. Whenever the team was struggling, Iyer stood up and pushed the team toward a safe place. But coming off a shaky 2024, the job was not easy, but Shreyas has done it gracefully. After wrapping up the tournament, he reflected on his tough time.
Shreyas Reflects On His Tough Times
After Shreyas Iyer made his debut in international cricket, Team India found a responsible middle-order batter. However, 2024 brought a challenging phase for the talented batter, as he lost his central contract and was left out of Team India's squad, marking a tough turn in his career.
After delivering impressive performances in the domestic, he secured his place in Team India’s Champions Trophy squad and made a killer comeback. In 5 matches, he scored 243 runs with an average of 48.60. With that, he ended up being the highest run scorer of the tournament. In a recent interaction, he reflected on how his struggles fueled his success on the big stage.
“The confidence comes when you face rejections and failures in life. You get a good lesson from that. What you learn is that if there is anyone who can get you out of bad times, it is none other than you.” Shreyas said.
Iyer Is Eyeing His New Stint
After winning the IPL 2024 as the Kolkata Knight Riders' captain, fans were in shock as the franchise released him before the IPL 2025. But something bigger was waiting for him as Punjab Kings snapped him up for a staggering 26.75 crore. Later on, the franchise announced him as their captain.
After years, the Iyer-Ponting duo will be back together. After past success, the coach-captain pairing is back with one goal of clinching the elusive IPL trophy. With captain Iyer and a robust squad, they are set to challenge the opponents, aiming for their maiden IPL trophy.
