Virat Kohli's popularity knows no bounds. The cricketer is admired globally for his on-field achievements, as well as for raising the standards of physical fitness in the sport.

Even Pakistani fans and cricketers seem to have been smitten by Kohli's aura. One such player, Ahmed Shehzad, has recently narrated his bond with the former Indian captain. The charismatic Pakistani batter even expressed his admiration for Kohli by citing the latter's Test achievements during his leadership days for India.

Kohli’s best is yet to come: Ahmed Shahzad

Ahmed Shahzad first burst onto the international scene in 2009 for Pakistan. A crucial member of his team's 2009 T20 World Cup triumph, the then-youngster made a household name for himself and was often compared with India's Virat Kohli for his looks and similar batting styles.

While speaking on Nadir Ali's podcast, Shahzad revealed that he shares a mutual respect with Kohli. The Quetta Gladiators star also stated that whenever he has sought advice, the Indian batting legend has always been kind to him.

Shahzad further praised Kohli for his work ethic and for reshaping India's Test fortunes by taking the team to new heights. He said:

"We share a mutual respect for each other. Whenever I need any advice regarding cricket, he has been kind. I really respect him as a player. He has changed himself dramatically. When he burst onto the scene during the U-19 World Cup, he was a bit chubby. But the way he has transformed himself, not just from the cricketing aspect, it is commendable. He took India to new heights in Test cricket. I haven't seen someone who has adapted so quickly. I feel, his best is yet to come."

Kohli remains India's greatest Test captain of all time, leading his side to 40 wins from 68 matches. Moreover, he was the first Indian skipper to win a series in Australia. The team also won five Test maces under his leadership.

Meanwhile, Shahzad has not featured in any international game for the 'Men in Green' since 2019, despite holding impressive batting numbers in limited-overs fixtures. During his playing days, the dynamic opener unlocked several major Pakistan batting records, including being the first from his country to register centuries across all formats.
