In any kind of global competition, the misbalance between top and lower-ranked teams are quite evident, which keeps the audiences wanting upsets, where a David knocks over a Goliath.

In the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, as many as two major upsets have already taken place, with Afghanistan beating England, and the Netherlands defeating South Africa.

On the eve of India's tie against Bangladesh, former skipper Virat Kohli spoke about why an upset occurs.

India have been in top form this edition so far, winning all three matches, however, their recent track record against Bangladesh in ODIs is worrisome, having lost three out of the last four meetings.

Speaking to Star Sports, the 34-year-old stated how only focusing on bigger teams, mainly led to upsets.

Here's what Kohli said

“There are no big teams in the World Cup. Whenever you start focusing only on bigger teams, an upset happens,”

Kohli further talked about his on-field battles with Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who has managed to get the better of the former five times.

“Over the years, I’ve played a lot against him (Shakib). He’s got amazing control. He’s a very experienced bowler. He bowls very well with the new ball, knows how to deceive the batsman, and is also very economical.”

The India-Bangladesh encounter will take place at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
