Bangladesh, following their twin defeats at the hands of 2019 finalists England and New Zealand, will be taking field against India on October 20 in a bid to reboot their World Cup 2023 campaign. Ahead of their must-win match, Bangladesh bowling coach Allan Donald admitted that his team is wary of Virat Kohli’s batting threat and went on to underpin the value of his wicket.

Donald praises Virat Kohli ahead of faceoff

Former South African speedster and current Bangladesh bowling coach Allan Donald expressed that his team is wary of senior Indian batter Virat Kohli ahead of their standoff in Pune. Speaking at the pre-match press conference a day prior to their much-awaited contest, the former cricketer said:

“I think Virat Kohli is the guy for me that you think about the night before, or two days out, because that's how we value his scalp.”

Donald’s claims hold enough weightage as Kohli averages a stunning 67.25 against Bangladesh in ODIs. The Indian batting legend has gone up against them 15 times in the format since his first faceoff in 2010, and has so far minted 807 runs with three half-centuries and four tons to his name.

As far as his batting form in the ongoing 2023 World Cup is concerned, the right-hander has scored 156 runs in three innings at an average of 78. The cricketer punched out a match-winning 85 against Australia in India’s tournament opener, and followed it up with an unbeaten 55 against Afghanistan in Delhi on October 11.

Thereafter, Kohli sustained a rare batting failure against arch-rivals Pakistan in Ahmedabad, and will be aiming to put up a notable score in his side’s subsequent World Cup 2023 outing in Pune.
