In a heartfelt tribute to mark International Women’s Day, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) released a powerful video featuring team captains Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Ashleigh Gardner, who shared motivational messages celebrating women’s resilience and unity.
The video, shared across WPL’s official social media handles, resonated with fans as the leaders highlighted the significance of the day and the league’s role in empowering women through cricket.
WPL Captains Celebrate Women Strength
The 57-second video opens with stirring visuals of WPL captains speaking their hearts out, transitioning to candid moments of the captains addressing the camera.
Dressed in their team jerseys, all the captains of WPL 2025 emphasized themes of self-belief, perseverance, and collective strength. Meanwhile, the backdrop of stadiums and training grounds underscored the league’s commitment to elevating women’s sports.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the MI captain, whose birthday coincides with Women’s Day, tied the occasion to broader themes of unity.
“When we talk about women, the only one thing which comes to our mind is strength. Really happy that my birthday is on a day when all the women around the world celebrate their strength and unity.”
Ashleigh Gardner echoed a message of authenticity and joy as she sent out her message of being a woman and celebrating life.
“Keep being you, keep being the highest possible thing that you can and keep smiling.”
Smriti Mandhana too was seen wishing Happy Women's Day and sending out her best wishes for all the women in this world.
WPL’s Nod to Women’s Day
The video seamlessly blended sport with social advocacy, aligning with the 2025 Women’s Day theme of inclusivity and breaking barriers. WPL’s initiative not only honoured athletes but also acknowledged the millions of women who inspire change daily.
Since its inception, the WPL has transcended cricket, becoming a movement for gender equality in sports. By spotlighting captains like Kaur, Mandhana, and Gardner, athletes who’ve shattered ceilings, the league reinforces the importance of visibility and representation.
Nevertheless, the tournament which started on February 14 with a bang will be hosting its finale on March 15 in Mumbai as teams inch closer to the end of the group stage.
