On November 2, during a captivating match against Sri Lanka in Mumbai, the ace Indian pacer Mohammed Shami delivered a remarkable performance, earning the highest praise from none other than Robin Uthappa, who drew comparisons with today's cricketing maestro, Virat Kohli.

Shami's spellbinding display saw him snare five crucial wickets while conceding just 18 runs, continuing his sensational run in the World Cup 2023. This astounding achievement marked his second five-wicket haul in the three matches he has participated in, further solidifying his status as a standout bowler.

Here's what Robin Uthappa told India Today post-game:

"So I think he is a similar kind of bowler, that same attitude, that same hunger, that same grit. He has the same caliber that we hold Virat Kohli to. What Virat Kohli is the batter to Team India, Mohammed Shami is the bowler to Team India."

Mohammed Shami also achieved the distinction of becoming India's all-time leading wicket-taker in ODI World Cups, securing an impressive tally of 45 wickets in just 14 innings. In doing so, he surpassed the previous record of 44 wickets held jointly by Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath.

Notably, Shami had accomplished this feat with his third five-wicket haul in the last five ODIs, which dated back to the Australian series that preceded the World Cup. His consistent excellence with the ball not only rewrote records but also solidified his status as a vital asset for the Indian cricket team on the global stage.
