'What Is Happening Honestly?': Aakash Chopra Likens Bangladesh Cricket Drama To A Soap Opera

The road to World Cup 2023 for Bangladesh cricket has been overshadowed by an unexpected controversy, and former Indian batter, Aakash Chopra hasn't hesitated to voice his astonishment.

Aakash Chopra highlighted unfolding drama in Bangladesh Cricket

Drawing attention to the situation in a recent YouTube video, Chopra likened the tumultuous events in Bangladesh cricket to the plot twists of a soap opera.

The saga's epicentre is the surprising omission of Tamim Iqbal from the World Cup squad. While initial speculations hinted at a back injury sidelining Tamim, the batter countered, claiming that a senior BCB official's request for him to change his batting position led to his decision.

The former Indian batter expressed confusion at the rapid sequence of events, pointing out Tamim's initial reluctance to play, a subsequent meeting with the nation's Prime Minister, and then a reversion to his original stance.

“The Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan and Bangladesh cricket controversy is something different. Bangladesh cricket is a story in itself. It’s like a soap opera. One player says he won’t play, then he meets the prime minister. After he meets the PM, he says, okay I will do it for the country. But then again he says he won’t play," said Chopra.

Adding fuel to the fire, Bangladesh's captain, Shakib Al Hasan, openly criticized Tamim, labelling him as 'selfish' for his unwillingness to adjust for the team.

Commenting on the unfolding drama, Chopra remarked, " What is happening, honestly? These two are really senior players. Earlier, I had heard that they were very good friends, but that doesn’t seem the case now," added the former opener.

Chopra concluded by emphasizing the inopportune nature of the controversy.

"It’s tata bye bye to Tamim Iqbal as he not part of the team. Shakib termed him selfish. It’s become a big story. This is not the way you want to start the World Cup, but that’s the story of Bangladesh,” concluded Chopra, highlighting the unwanted attention the team is drawing ahead of the crucial tournament.
