After a stellar performance last season, Sunrisers Hyderabad have hit a rough patch in the current IPL edition. After starting the journey with a thrilling win, they lost their rhythm. In the last four matches, their batting woes have been boldly visible.

Despite having some destructive batters, they are struggling the most in the department. Ahead of their clash with the Punjab Kings, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has urged them to rethink their approach with the bat if they want to stage a strong comeback.

Aakash Chopra Calls For A Batting Overhaul

After ending the IPL 2024 as the runners-up, the Sunrisers Hyderabad were one of the favourites for the IPL 2025. But things have turned out differently. After a thrilling win in the inaugural clash, their struggle began as they faced four consecutive defeats. Despite boasting one of the league's most formidable batting lineups, their top order has faltered time and again, leaving fans wondering what went wrong.

In the opening position, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma’s bats remained quiet, and the middle order failed to make an impact. As Pat Cummins and Co. are all set to face the Punjab Kings in their next match, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has urged them to revamp their batting strategy for a stronger, more impactful return.

“What could this team's thought process be? It's extremely surprising that Abhishek Sharma hasn't hit a single six thus far. I think he hit 40 or 42 sixes last year. Travis Head doesn't score runs in run chases. He might still score runs while batting first, but hasn't scored runs at all in run chases, especially if it's a big run chase,” Chopra said.

Highlights Nitish Reddy’s Role

In the IPL 2025 mega auction, Ishan Kishan’s entry to the SRH’s squad was one of the most talked-about topics. After smashing a century, his form has dipped sharply. Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar Reddy, expected to anchor the middle order, has managed just 112 runs in 5 games. Before they step into the upcoming clash, he has called on Reddy to step up and take charge if the top order crumbles again.

“Ishan Kishan hasn't been able to do anything like that after the first hundred. There are plenty of problems. My focus will once again be on Nitish Kumar Reddy because if the batting stumbles, Nitish Kumar Reddy needs to score runs. You can stand like a pillar even if there is a storm around,” he said.

After facing four straight defeats, Sunrisers Hyderabad slipped into the last position of the points table. As they are set to face Punjab Kings in their upcoming clash, the Pat Cummins and Co. will be eyeing a stronger comeback.
