'We Won't Be Seeing..'- Joe Root Backs ENG To Bounce Back After Ahmedabad Flop Show

The defending champions made a shocking start to their 2023 World Cup campaign after bowing down to New Zealand on October 5. The English bowlers were no match against Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway, who registered a massive 273-run stand for the second wicket to brutally annihilate the Poms.

However, England batting stalwart Joe Root offered a few words of encouragement following England's horrible outing in Ahmedabad. He strongly emphasised that it is still possible for England to win the World Cup trophy as they did in the 2019 edition after encountering numerous blockages.

In a conversation with BBC Sport, the 32-year-old stated that England would look to make a much stronger comeback in their following fixture and urged his team to exercise the notion of staying calm.

“It's always easy to look at things when they don't quite come off, but it enforces the way we are as a team and we want to go about our cricket in that way. We won't be seeing guys chipping it to mid-wicket or mid-off next game, they'll be hitting it 20 rows back. It's important that we stay calm. Look at us in 2019, we had hiccups throughout. When we do hit a bump in the road, we are a team that comes back strong and we double down on our identity," said Root.

Root's contribution with the bat allowed England to reach a respectable score of 282 on a sluggish track. He played a well-constructed innings of 77 (86), which featured four boundaries and 1 six. Despite his valiant contribution, the likes of Brook, Bairstow, and Buttler failed to convert their positive starts into big scores.

England will now head to Dharamshala to face off against Bangladesh in their upcoming World Cup fixture on October 10 at the HPCA stadium.
