Australia and India may be arch-rivals on the cricket field but there is a long history that attaches the two great countries and instills a sense of friendliness outside the park. Both the commonwealth nations struggled for freedom from the common enemy and share great admiration and respect for each other.

No India versus Australia cricket match is short of fans from either side joining hands and taking pictures at the venue, away from all the tension and heated moments shared by the players on the field. Even though an Indian would still take nothing but a victory over their historic nemesis, there is no feeling of animosity and vengeance that follows a result anymore.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has played its part. As the fanfare and excitement of IPL cricket transcends boundaries and players share the same jerseys and common dressing rooms, fans have over the years caught up with the vibe and started developing affection independent of the national inclination.

An example of it came at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore during the ICC World Cup 2023 league-stage encounter on Friday (October 20) between Australia and Pakistan. One of the Australian fans present at the iconic venue was heard chanting 'Bharat Mata Ki Jay'.

Australian Fan Sings 'Bharat Mata Ki Jay'

Much to the delight of cricket lovers in India, this Australian fan cheering for the Pat Cummins-led Aussies from one of the stands at the Chinnaswamy took time out to hail the land he visited for the World Cup.

The fan loudly sang 'Bharat Mata Ki Jay' from the stand and was joined by a large section of Indian fans present at the ground to watch the neutral fixture of the marquee tournament.

The Aussies had healthy support from the crowd for their encounter against the Pakistanis. Cummins and company relished the roars and cheers in their favour throughout the match and eventually came out triumphant versus the Asian giants.

Rallying on the back of centuries from David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, the five-time champions posted an insurmountable 367/9 and came out victorious by 62 runs.
