Mitchell Starc lavished special praise on modern-day legend Virat Kohli, hailing him as the "face of Indian cricket" in this era. The Australian left-arm quick reckons Kohli stands as the strongest pillar of Indian cricket in the current times with his greatness as an all-format batter and successful former captain apart from his global superstardom.

Starc reinforced his respect and adulation for Kohli by applauding him for his status and genius as a cricketer for the Indian team. The tall left-arm pacer, who has faced up against Kohli many times at the international stage and forged a great battle with the legend, reckons the stalwart is the leading face of Indian cricket.

The remarks from the veteran Aussie quick came in an interaction on ICC World Cup 2023 host broadcaster Star Sports. Speaking after Kohli uplifted himself as the numero uno runs-getter of the marquee tournament until Monday (October 23) with 357 runs in five innings, Starc acknowledged the right-hander's remarkable body of work and his contribution to the game.

Kohli, who was surpassed in the tournament run-chart by South Africa's swashbuckling opening batter Quinton de Kock with a century against Bangladesh in Mumbai on Tuesday (October 24), has been in spectacular form in the home World Cup.

The great batter has regained his best mojo after enduring a lean patch at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. The zeal and the command are back in grand fashion and have been visible throughout India's campaign where he has struck one hundred and three half-centuries.

"Virat Kohli is the face of Indian cricket," Starc said. "Kohli's desire to get better and better everytime and perform every single day for his team is very admirable."

The 34-year-old has smashed his 354 runs while averaging a humongous 118 with a strike-rate nudging close to 91. Kohli hammered an unbeaten 103 off 97 deliveries versus Bangladesh in Pune and missed out on the three-figure mark against Australia and New Zealand while hitting a fifty versus Afghanistan.

In what could potentially be his last World Cup, the Indian stalwart wishes to leave no stone unturned in helping the country regain the prestigious World Cup title after 12 long years of wait.
