England were dragged into a media storm over their mid-Ashes series Noosa break. However, Australian batter Travis Head came out strongly in defence of Ben Duckett and his teammates, suggesting the controversy had been blown well out of proportion.

The Noosa trip, meant to offer England a mental reset after falling 0-2 behind in the Ashes 2025 series, quickly became headline fodder after reports of late-night drinking emerged.

The ECB has since launched an internal review after Ben Duckett was found in a drunk state on the streets.

Travis Head comes out in support of England

While England are being called unprofessional for their conduct on a serious Ashes tour, Australian opener Travis Head has begged to differ.

Speaking after Australia’s shock two-day defeat at the MCG, Head brushed aside the chatter with a grin, admitting he was jealous of England’s beachside escape.

Head felt the reaction said more about modern scrutiny than any real wrongdoing. For him, the outrage felt like noise filling the gaps between Test matches rather than a serious issue.

"I'm jealous. Everyone else has made a lot more out of it than I think it should have been. We've done the same thing on past tours, so I didn't have an issue with it," Head told reporters.

Head reveals speaking to Ben Duckett after the storm

What stood out was Head’s personal response. Rather than commenting from a distance, he reached out directly to Ben Duckett, checking in on how the England opener was coping with the attention.

"It was from one of his own as well ... it was an English fan, which is a bit stiff. I get along with Ducky [Duckett] well and reached out to him to see if he was going all right. Everyone is still human and what you do in your personal time is up to you," he added.

Travis Head admitted he was disappointed to see what should have remained private spill into the public domain.

"I know we live a high-profile life and some people are more high-profile than others and get themselves in situations, but at the end of the day it's a bit stiff. I don't think there's been any real issue since that and it's something to talk about."

Ben Duckett was caught drunk on Noosa streets

The controversy erupted when a viral video of Ben Duckett appearing drunk during England’s break in Noosa triggered controversy, forcing an ECB investigation.

In the clip, Duckett is seen slurring his words, joking with fans and admitting he didn’t know how to get home, prompting renewed scrutiny over England’s conduct off the field.

The ECB said it is establishing the fact and reiterated its high standards for player behaviour.

The video surfaced just hours after manager Rob Key vowed to probe claims of excessive drinking during the Noosa trip.
