In modern-day cricket, the heartbeat of Team India still pulses with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Representing the nation over more than a decades, the cricket icons never fail to deliver their best for the country on the big stage.
But at both stars are standing on the twilight of their career, questions about their future continue to swirl. In a recent interaction, Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir made a massive revelation regarding their future.
What Does The Future Hold For Ro-Ko?
Over the years, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has become the strongest piller of the Indian cricket. Even after hanging up boots from the shortest format, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are continuing with the ODI and Test format. However, with every dip in form, the question about their retirement always seems to resurface, sparking endless speculation about the moment.
In a recent interaction, Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir gave a strong answer to the quarry. He said as long as Kohli and Rohit keep delivering, there’s no reason they won’t continue to be part of the squad.
“Till the time they are performing, they should be a part of the team. Performances ensures selection. No coach, selector, or even the BCCI can tell someone to stop playing if they’re delivering,” Gambhir said.
What Is Gambhir's Role?
After stepping into Rahul Dravid’s shoe after the T20 World Cup, Gambhir has been accused of going beyond personal preferences. Picking Harshit Rana in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad sparked fuel but the bowler showcased his brilliance in the Perth Test. Reflecting on this, Gambhir made it clear that while the selectors choose the players, it’s his responsibility to prepare them for the big stage.
“It’s not the coach’s job to pick the team; that’s for the selectors. My responsibility is to prepare whoever is selected to perform for India,” he said.
As the entire nation is enjoying the IPL 2025, the crucial Test series against the England is coming up in the next month. After the Australia horror, Rohit Sharma and Co. will try hard to give a positive start to the new WTC cycle.
