The entire cricket world is in a storm as speculation suggests that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to hang up their boots from the ODI format. With both legends already stepped away from T20Is and Tests, fans are holding onto the dream of seeing the iconic duo take one final swing in the 50-over format in the next ODI World Cup.

With the speculation catching fire, even former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly weighed in. Reflecting on the topic, he also hailed RO-KO as ‘Phenomenal’ in white ball format.

Ganguly Weighs In On Rohit-Kohli ODI Farewell

Staying away from international cricket after Team India’s Champions Trophy triumph in March 2025, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli hung up their boots from the longest format in May 2025. As they had already announced their retirements from T20Is, fans were excited about their comeback in the 50-over format, with a dream of watching the duo gracing the 2027 ODI World Cup stage.

But the recent speculation is turning things around, as rumors have grown about their ODI retirement after the upcoming ODI series against Australia in October. As the chatter intensified, former India captain Sourav Ganguly opened up, sharing his candid thoughts with PTI.

“I’m not aware of this, can’t comment on this," he remarked when asked about the speculation,” he said.

Ganguly Hails RO-KO As ODI Legends

In the 50-over format, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma set the bar high. Kohli is the third-highest run-scorer of all time and holds the record for most ODI centuries, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s 49. On the flip side, Rohit Sharma still holds the highest individual score in ODIs, which is 264. Remembering their legacy, Sourav Ganguly hails them as ‘Phenomenal’.

“It’s difficult to say. Whoever does well will play. If they do well, they should continue. Kohli’s one-day record is phenomenal, even Rohit Sharma’s. Both of them are phenomenal in white-ball cricket,” he added.

After the IPL 2025, the duo is away from competitive cricket. With the Australia ODI series on the horizon, both stars are gearing up for a grand return.
