Former Indian opening batter Wasim Jaffer has raised concerns about the impact of Jasprit Bumrah's long-term back injury on his bowling pace.

Bumrah suffered a back injury in September 2022, which resulted in his absence from international matches, including the T20 World Cup. With the ODI World Cup approaching, there are doubts about his fitness for the tournament.

In April 2023, Bumrah began his rehabilitation at the NCA in Bengaluru after undergoing successful surgery in New Zealand. The latest media release from the BCCI confirms that he is in the final stages of his rehab and is bowling with full intensity in the nets. To further test his recovery, Bumrah will participate in practice games organized by the NCA.

During a conversation on JioCinema, Jaffer expressed his concern about the lasting impact of Bumrah's back injury on his bowling pace. He questioned whether the pacer would be able to bowl at the same speed as before.

“ (Jasprit) Bumrah needs to come back to fitness. There will be a question mark whether he will be able to bowl the same way, at the same pace,”  Wasim Jaffer told JioCinema.

Jaffer also highlighted Bumrah's importance in the Indian bowling unit and how his absence has affected the team in recent months. He believes that Bumrah's inclusion will be crucial to India's chances in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup, scheduled for October-November this year. The former Indian opener emphasized that Bumrah's contribution extends beyond one format and that his performance in tough conditions has been instrumental in winning many matches for India.

“Bumrah is a crucial part of the bowling attack. I feel he will play an extremely important role in the World Cup. We are missing him in death bowling. He is important not for one, but for all formats. He has won India so many matches in tough conditions,”  Jaffer added.

As Bumrah's rehabilitation progresses, the cricketing world eagerly awaits his return to full fitness, hoping to witness his fiery pace once again on the cricket field.
